Obituary

Roland “Ro” Harrison, 93, of Branchville passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018, at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home in Paramus.

Ro was born in England in the Wingate District of County Durham and raised in New Jersey. He graduated North Plainfield High School in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy. Ro served as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class on a LCI (G) 560 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, he was also in the Invasion of Leyte, Luzon, Okinawa. He received his US citizenship on September 21, 1945 in Hawaii on the way home from his tour of duty. After his discharge, Ro moved to Sussex County where he established himself as a Building Contractor/Carpenter who specialized in custom work, there was no job too small for him. On November 2, 1972 Ro married his wife, Katieanne Marsh, they moved to Branchville where they enjoyed the many charms of small-town life and eventually retired.

Ro enjoyed hunting in the Walpack Valley, fishing in Culvers Lake and canoeing on local rivers. He was a member of the Branchville Businessmen and Branchville American Legion Post 157. Ro also enjoyed attending Navy reunions with his shipmates in his retirement.
Ro was predeceased by his parents, George and Maud Lincoln Harrison; his brother, Kenneth Harrison; and his sister-in-law Georgianna Harrison. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Katieanne (nee Marsh) Harrison; his nieces, Sandra Berkerly and Patti Amente; his great-nephews, Gian Carlo, Marcello and Georgio Amente; and his nephew, David M. Marsh Jr.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main St, Branchville, with a 7 p.m. Memorial Service.
