Obituary

Frances Jane Cowdrick, 92, of Newton, died Monday, December 17, 2018, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton.

Born in Andover Borough, Jane was raised in Newton and was a 1944 graduate of Newton High School. She was a lifelong Sussex County resident and was the longest resident of Liberty Towers, where she was very active. Jane was a secretary for Picatinny Arsenal, Beierle Insurance Agency, The Morville Agency, and retired from
the First Presbyterian Church of Newton.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, Jane sang with the choir, was a former Elder, and worked at Manna House. She was a member of Newton Primetime Seniors and was a volunteer at Newton Medical Center, working at the Beehive Thrift Shop for many years. She enjoyed knitting and would knit hats and blankets for the nursery at Newton Medical Center. Her family was a priority, especially her grandchildren.

The daughter of the late Millard Filmore Tallman and Frances May (nee Mills) Tallman, Jane was also predeceased by her husband, David A. Cowdrick, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Hillard and husband, Gerald; her son, Charles Cowdrick and wife, Carol; her grandchildren, Christa Doyle and husband, Finbar, Devon Hotchkiss and Kevin Haring and David Cowdrick and Brenda O'Dell; as well as her great-grandchildren, Matthew Doyle and Landon Haring.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, 54 High Street, Newton. Interment will follow in North Hardyston Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High Street, Newton.
