Obituary

Estelle M. Campbell, 80, of the Lake Iliff community of Andover Township, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit. Although her passing was unexpected, it was peaceful and she was surrounded by her loving family.

Estelle was born in Hawaii in 1938 to the late Charles and Gertrude (nee Bederman) Campbell. In 1942, her family relocated to Sussex County where she was raised and lived out her life. Estelle graduated from Newton High School in 1955 and thoroughly enjoyed her class reunions! She worked as a Land Use Administrator for Andover Township for 35 years and was the past president and founding member of the NJ Association of Planning and Zoning Administrators. Estelle was also an adjunct professor for Rutgers University.

Estelle was a past member of Lakeland Emergency Squad and an active member of Andover United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed swimming, knitting, and, above all, spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed the many trips to Maine, Hawaii, Florida, and more recently, exploring the Utah and Arizona area.

In addition to her parents, Estelle was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Robert, in 2015, her son-in-law, Sam Wydner and step-father George Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Wydner of Andover, Donna Snyder and Nick DeVita of Andover, Barbara (BJ) and Bill Lawson of Forked River, and her son Allen and Therisa Campbell of Andover. She also held a very special place in her heart for Joshua Handler. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren, Heather (Wydner) Alaboudi, Donovan Wydner and wife, Melissa, David and Chris Snyder, Andrew and Katie Lawson, and Casey Campbell; her five great-grandchildren provided more smiles and good times. Estelle is survived by siblings Thomas Campbell, Charles Johnson, George Johnson and Fran Clark. Known as the “cookie lady” to young children in the neighborhood or “mom” to others, Stell will be sorely missed by many people.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, followed by a 7 p.m. Funeral Service, also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Tranquility Cemetery in Green Township.

Memorial donations may be made to the Andover United Methodist Church, PO Box 368, Andover, NJ 07821 or to the Matheny Frelinghuysen Group Home, P.O. Box 339, Peapack, NJ 07977. Online condolences may be offered at www.smithmccrackenfuneralhome.com.
